The aroma of a good coffee can help turning a common object like a coffee cup into a work of art. The round shape of the coffee cup is wrapped by unusual forms and colours, and as the hot coffee spreads its aroma, our eyes are intrigued and delighted by the paintings on the porcelain. You may prefer the stark contrast between black and white. Black is the mysterious, winged animal figure with its wavy rhythmical forms. White is the background. A view of the space can be admired in the cosmic shapes of a pale blue, or even the essential signs of a mythical protohistoric civilization. Also featured in this collection are Tacchini’s ‘Lune’, representations of moons with a seductive woman’s face (Mother- Lunigiana ‘Land of the Moon’); and also bright blue birds and small, filiform owls, all of them appearing unconsciously indifferent to the light that is emphasizing and dividing them at the same time. Also fascinating are the two black figures of animals with crumpled horns, dismayed by the absolute predominance ofthe Moon-Woman, which is also black.Within this magic of colours and shapes, various and different symbols can be identified: the bright sunshine of the Mediterranean-Tirrenic lands, figures of a fantastic mythology that brings us back to the Etruscan, Hellenic and Roman civilizations, even some peculiar signs of the ancient Ligurian population of Ligures-Apuani. And finally Walter Tacchini’s ‘Bestiario’ is the result of the alluring, fertile imagination which is distinctive of this man-artist of European standing, rooted in the traditions of the land of Lunigiana. These artistic cups bring togetherthe art of ‘Bestiario’ and the traditional business of coffee roasting, made up of fragrance and up-to date technology, as in the case of CRASTAN caffè. It is right to say that in these cups designed by Walter Tacchini, two raw materials, Coffee and Ceramic, join to form an indissoluble pair; these raw materials are transformed by Crastan into a fragrant beverage and a solid, elegant cup, obtained with an expert and fragrant blending in a line of long-standing tradition.
