With a century-long history, the origins of CRASTAN caffè lie in the traditions of the town of La Spezia and the Ligurian hinterland. Originally a shop of grocery and spices, during the 40’s the company specialised in coffee roasting. At that time, ‘Bar Crastan’, a café located in Via Chiodo, (the café was later destroyed by a bomb) was an exclusive gathering place for the marine officers of the Italian Royal Navy.
An elegant café featuring mirrors on the wall, stucco and mahogany interiors and a waiting service, it became a fashionable venue for the upper-class people of La Spezia. With the end of the war and the economic rehabilitation of the country, it was time for a new business approach from which the Company as we know it today was born.
In 1981 the company was taken over by the Costa family, who renewed the firm’s business strategies, with the result that today CRASTAN caffè is a leading-edge company in the coffee roasting industry, its plant is located on a total area of 12,000 square metres, with a building of 3,000 square metres.
